English Support Classes/Exam Preparation

Throughout the year, we offer one-on-one tutorials and workshops for students seeking extra support in English skills:

  • Academic English skills: reading, writing, listening, and speaking
  • Testing skills 
  • Practice tests with feedback

Classes will be held in the Fountain Commons. Students currently enrolled in a degree program are also welcome to participate.

Policies

Medical Coverage
  • All students must have medical insurance. You can buy medical insurance from any company of your choice.
  • If you already have insurance, please show the policy to the English Language Centre.
  • If you do not have medical insurance, it will be purchased for you from
  • Whenever you need to see a doctor, you must bring your medical coverage card with you.
Attendance Policy
  • If you are in class, you are marked 鈥減resent鈥.
  • If you arrive more than 1 minute after class has started, you are marked 鈥渓ate鈥.
  • If you are not in class, you are marked 鈥渁bsent鈥.
  • If you are sick on the day of a unit test or presentation, you must give a doctor鈥檚 note to your teacher. Your teacher will allow you to re-do the assignment/test. You will still be marked absent for the days missed.
  • You must attend more than 80% of classes in order to pass the term. 

Students who miss four or more EAP terms must take the CAEL placement test, or provide an IELTS or TOEFL score to determine the correct level for them to study in. According to Acadia鈥檚 admission policies, IELTS or TOEFL scores must be no more than 12 months old at the time of registration to be accepted.

Refund Policy

Students qualify for a refund of pre-paid tuition if they have been denied authorization to study in Canada and provide documentation from the proper Canadian authority stating that their application to study in Canada was denied.

If a student withdraws 10 days before the program begins or after the start of the program, the following refunds will be issued provided that Conditions A or B below are met:

0-10% of program completed
50% of unused tuition fees

11-20% of program completed
30% of unused tuition fees

20%+ of program completed
no refund

Condition A

Students who withdraw before the withdrawal deadline may receive a refund of their fees, provided that:

  • Students have admission to another Canadian Designated Learning Institution;
  • A student who does not have admission to another college/university at the time of withdrawal may defer their fees paid until they have received a letter of admission to another college/university (within four months of arrival in Canada).
  • When a copy of a Letter of Acceptance from another college or university is received and authenticated by Acadia, a refund of fees will be authorized.

OR

Condition B

Students who withdraw before the deadline may receive a refund of their fees, provided that:

  • The student relinquishes their status as an international student in Canada and returns to their home country. In this case the student will be required to provide Acadia with proof of return home (e.g., a copy of a one鈥恮ay airline ticket with confirmed travel dates).

Application fees and tuition deposits are non-refundable. Withdrawals must be requested by emailing elc@acadiau.ca.
